Is South America a Good Place For a Road Trip?

Road tripping through South America can be a lot of fun! In fact, we’d say it’s one of the best road trip destinations in the whole world. Of course, the Pan-American highway is one of the most famous roads in the entirety of South America, but there are hundreds of other roads worthy of your time and attention. All you need to do is pack the car right, make sure your passport is in date, and you’re willing to see what’s on offer! And while you’re planning your trip, make sure you keep the three tips below in mind, as they’ll help make it the best road trip ever.

There are Plenty of Tours to Sign Up For

South America is a place ripe for exploring, meaning there’s going to be plenty of tour packages to sign up to if you’re interested in road tripping throughout the continent. An Ecuador tour package is very popular, but you can also find packages for countries like Brazil and Colombia, and let’s not forget about Argentina here either!

As such, you can follow a predetermined route to get from point A to point B, using a well traveled itinerary to guide you, and you won’t need to stop off anywhere you’re not sure about. You may even be able to join up with a group and check in with them from time to time, so if you’re going to be road tripping alone, you’ll still have that social element to make you feel secure.

Be Sure to Visit Sites Where Ancient Empires Stood

South America has a lot of history within it, and the landscape has been shaped by empires rising and falling in the past 1000 years. Make sure you stop off at these sites!

Machu Picchu is the most obvious place to witness this history, and you can drive all the way up to the nearest town if need be. Once you’re there, you can get a bus to the entrance of the monument (or a train), or you can even choose to hike the trail, which tends to take around 90 minutes. If you’ve been driving for all that time, this would be a prime opportunity to stretch your legs!

Keep Your Travel Documents Close to You

South America has quite a few border crossings to it, and it’s not unusual to pass police checkpoints on the road where your car may be stopped. Don’t let these intimidate you! Just make sure your travel documents are always within reach. If you can, put them in your car’s dashboard so you can just pull them out when the police request them.

These documents need to include your passport, as well as any supporting documents about where you’ve come from and where you’re staying for the night, if anywhere.

South America is a magical road tripping destination. Take your time planning your trip, but be sure you get through it if you’re a lover of traveling by car!
