There’s nothing better than planning a fun trip and 2025 is proving to be fun already! Soaking up the rich history of the country is one thing but getting out and having as much fun as possible is another, which is why a road trip to Washington DC should be on your list of things to do. You already know that Washington DC is steeped in history, and it’s long been known as one of the most dynamic cities in the US, so why wouldn’t you want to visit it?

Whether you’re choosing to book into motels on the road or you want to book the more luxurious apartments Washington, DC has to offer, you need to plan this trip to perfection. So, let’s take a look at the reasons why you should visit Washington DC while you have the chance!

  1. The art museums. The storied art collections of Washington DC were long established almost 90 years ago by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The gallery is now in ownership of 150,000 masterworks by artists across the US and Europe. You’ll find it by the scenic National Mall, and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art hosts some of the most prestigious Asian art in the world. It’s one of the most important collections and cannot be missed.
  2. Washington DC’s immersive experiences. Opened in 2020, Planet Word has built itself as the world’s first voice activated museum. You’ll love it and so will the kids because it offers self-guided tours through the power and potential of language. There is the Speaking Willow, which is a tree that murmurs at you, and hundreds of languages and word worlds where you can use words to change the color of your environment.
  3. Washington National Cathedral. If you’re looking to add to your Gothic masterpiece collection, the Washington National Cathedral is one to go and see. It took 83 years to complete, with construction beginning in 1907. It’s the second largest cathedral in the USA after Saint John the Divine in New York. There are 112 gargoyles for you to go and see, and there are funerals hosted here of multiple presidents, including Reagan and Eisenhower. It’s an Episcopalian House of worship, which means that there are ordained female priests and have been for the past 50 years.
  4. The National Mall. Known as the beating heart of historic Washington DC. You’ll find 3 walkable tree lined kilometers between the United States capital and the glittering Lincoln Memorial. It’s home to some of the best museums in the city, and most of these are free, which makes your vacation time a lot cheaper than you’d imagine it to be. You’ll find the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum here, with the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world.

This is not the only reason you should plan a road trip to Washington DC, but if you want to do it in style, make sure that you hire a car to take you from place to place and wear great shoes for when you need to walk from museum to museum.
